Feria de Abril de Sevilla
Feria de Abril de Sevilla (Seville Fair) 2015 Date: 21 Apr 2015 - 26 Apr 2015
This is one of the most popular holidays in Seville during a year. In English we can call it simply as an April fair. It was originally created in 1847 as a small cattle fair and over time had grown to one of the most popular events of the year in the Andalusian capital of Seville.
The fiesta officially begins at midnight on Monday with the lightning test, the illumination of the thousands of multi-colored light bulbs in the fairground and adorning the main gateway, which is almost 50 meters high and has a different motive each year.
Once inside this gate shown above, you come to the “casetas” or tents where you can really experience the real power of the fair. These tents belong to groups of friends and associates, and are a family space where guests are welcomed in and offer you with delicious food and wine.
This is the perfect spot to hear some of the traditional songs, have a good conversation with strangers and to see the local version of flamenco dance. It is really great experience for everyone.
The most of the tents are privately owned and can be entered only by invitation from the members or their friends. There are however public tents which are open to all.
Throughout the whole feria de abril sevilla, people wear traditional Andalusian dress. The men wear the typical outfit of the farmworker and the women wear usually flamenco hand-made dresses.
During the Sevilla feria de Abril, the fair is filled with horsewomen, riders and good-looking rich carriages. This is known as the horse and carriage parade in which you can take part by renting a buggy with a driver at the spot.
By day the fair is filled with horsewomen, riders and richly festooned carriages. This is what is known as the horse and carriage parade, in which you can take part by renting a buggy with a driver.
Every afternoon, during the event, people crowd into the Plaza de la Maestranza bullring to see the day’s bullfight. You can buy tickets and passes in advance by the phone or on the official website.
