Traditionally, a Wednesday afternoon is dedicated to children where captive balloon fights are presented. Children of all ages absolutely love this event.

The link between Château-d’Oex and hot air balloons is actually a historical one. In 1999 the Breitling Orbiter – piloted by Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones is set off for the first tour around the world in a hot air balloon. That balloon is displayed at the hot air balloon museum in this little town.

The Château-d’Oex International Hot Air Balloon Festival brings together pilots from more than twenty different countries, with nearly a hundred hot air balloons taking advantage of the extraordinary climate of the Alps in winter.

This colorful festival includes a night-time show, hot air balloon rides and kids’ day. Once the balloon is inflated it rises into the sky, light as a feather, up to an altitude between 2500 and 3500 meters.
